The Feel of the Place

Why People Love Living in Fairfield

Fairfield was settled in 1855 as "Frogtown." In 1858 Johnston's Army built Camp Floyd, and the area briefly had more than 7,000 people. It was renamed Fairfield after the troops left in 1861 and incorporated in 2004 to protect its rural character. Today it's horse and acreage country: town-core lots of 1–5 acres and 5-acre-plus agricultural zones that allow horses, barns and small farms, mostly on private wells and septic.

Camp Floyd State Park Museum and the Stagecoach Inn, an Overland Stage and Pony Express stop, host events like Ghosts of Camp Floyd in October and History of Camp Floyd Day on Labor Day. The town's 2025 general plan anticipates new commercial and industrial areas along SR-73, so buyers should ask about future plans near any property.
